The Architecture of the City of Milan, Italy, has a long lasting history of developing Nature and Architecture, such as the Ospedale Maggiore by Filarete, with small flows of water integrated in the basement for health and sanitary reasons, the Navigli canals system connecting the city to the larger Po-valley estuary,  the 1938 urban renewal scheme Milano Verde for the Fiera-Sempione area, the contemporary Bosco Verticale building. The masterclass aims to reassess this tradition by formulating contemporary answers to urgent new challenges like the loss of biodiversity, drought or heat-islands effects.

The locations, which the students are to turn into a new green belt within Milan, have been identified within a 4 kilometer strip of urban territory northeast of the city, from Loreto along Via Palmanova.

As a conclusion to the Masterclass held by Juliette Bekkering and Michiel Riedijk, with Leonardo Zuccaro Marchi and Rocco Vitali, and on invitation by Pierre Alain-Croset, students from the Advanced School of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano present their final projects at Assab One.
