As part of the exhibition Endje: Wander-Weaving by Anila Rubiku curated by Edi Muka, on Monday, January 13th at 6 p.m., Assab One guests, Resterà la luce, a meeting with the artist Anila Rubiku curated by Monica Coretti.

«The meeting is inspired – is explained by Monica Coretti – by Jean Genet’s reflection in Il Funambolo when, speaking of Alberto Giacometti’s work, he wrote: “Beauty has no other origin than the wound”. Anila Rubiku’s work is rooted in the painful history of Albania, her mother country. The reflection on time and space, the confrontation with other cultures, the wish to acknowledge and give voice to groups of women at the margins, is the basis of her work. With great irony, Anila Rubiku creates “projects” which offers new forms and meanings to things, and so doing she heals the wound of pain forming a crack through which light can be seen. Departing by Anila’s personal story in a familiar talk and showing her works, we will try to comprehend how her artistic commitment and life path could be a possible way to give voice and hope to others.»

Before the conversation will be shown Resterà la luce, a piece taken from Alessandro Sciarroni’s latest work U. (from which the meeting takes its title), and at the end the audience will listen to the Cantico composed by the artist himself.

We thank Alessandro Sciarroni for his generous gift.

*** Elena Galateri di Genola, founder of the social enterprise Guri I Zi, which provides employment for over 40 craftswomen from one of Albania’s poorest communities with whom Anila Rubiku has worked, will be present at the event. Guri I Zi is a small village nestled in the mountains in northern Albania where weaving on a wooden loom has been handed down from mother to daughter for over a century.
